Woodworker: John Cobb

This maple burl vessel (9 in. dia. by 10 in. tall) was turned from a log Cobb rescued from an arborist’s firewood pile in Fairfax, Calif. The piece took seven hours to complete and was finished with tung oil.

The Sonoma County Woodworkers Association recently hosted its 34th annual Artistry in Wood show at the Sonoma County Museum in Santa Rosa, Calif. Thirty-one woodworkers from all over California brought 57 entries including furniture, turnings, art pieces, and instruments to the monthlong, juried exhibition, visited by more than 3,000 patrons.
