Solid Maple Table
Front drawer of the table is from a solid piece of Maple. Routed down to create the handle. Keying is done with Ebony.
Hi Folks, I thought I’d share this table with the readers. I made this for my son who started secondary school and needed a desk for his room. I used solid 2″ maple to match the floor in the room. Its only got 3 legs! I wanted to do something a little different and funky. The drawer parts are all mitred with keying along the corners to add a bit of contrast. The drawer runs on the same principle, keyed along both sides. Action is perfect. Its waxed also to give a smooth action while pulling out…
I was going to use ebony parts to form part of a keyboard scale at the front of the table but decided against it as time was against me and I was a little fearfull the ebony dust would taint the lovely maple wood….I couldent sleep again if I knew that were to happen…lol
Finish is clear laquer, 5 coats with a wet and dry sand in between with 1000grit.

This view shows the table top. Its roughly 2" thick. 3 pieces were brought together with the center piece offset by about 4".

Another view of the top. Sides were mitred and keyed for added strength then I used Paduk for the eds for a bit of contrast.
