Broken series
This is a type of segmented turning I came up with about three years ago.
The woods used are Chinese Pistachio sap wood, Wenge, Ebony and Blood wood.
Each piece is cut, broken and glued into a ring. After the rings form a bowl they are turned on the inside and finished.
I had to come up with a special table saw sled to enable me to make a wide variety of angles and widths accuratley.
This bowl took over 80 hours to complete.
I added an Ebony mask on it, which you can see on the front view. It’s a rustic carving to replicate an old African mask.
This bowl recently sold at Gumps of San Francisco.
