Teacher’s Desk
This desk was built for my wife who is a school teacher/principal. After having gone to the big box office stores to look at desks, and having our dissappointments at the quality of desks they sell reaffirmed, we decided to build this out of poplar and birch ply.
The entire desk is built with mortise and tenons. There are no metal fasteners holding it together. Just wood and glue. It’s you’re basic frame and panel design, with 1/2″ birch plywood as the panels.
The top is going to be made out of quarter sawn oak for strength, durability and integrity, the drawers will be made out of soft maple with half blind dovetails I make using the porter cable omni-jig (the greatest dovetail jig ever!), and the glides will be side mount soft close.
You can see how I cut the tenons on a table saw using a regular saw blade on my youtube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42ErjJYE_L0
I will continue to update as this project goes along.
