Metal bodied smoothing plane
This was a prototype hand plane I built that was largely inspired by the Norris A13 and the Stanley 4 1/2 smoothing planes. Weighing in at just over 9 lbs this hand plane is very heavy but is very well balanced in hand. The iron measures 3 1/2″ wide and is perfect for smoothing large surfaces. The sides are brass and the base is stainless steel which were then dovetailed together. All of the parts were built by hand without the aid of a mill or lathe. The hand plane measures 12″x 4″x 6″.
