Locust Drop Leaf Table
This table was designed for a family in Philadelphia as an outdoor dining table on a locust porch. I wanted the table to also be a beautiful piece of furniture when stored inside off of the porch. The locust was originally ordered for a boat building project still under construction, but then also brought into the builders home because he liked the look of it. The whale tail legs pay homage to the sea but also are designed to counterbalance the top for additional stability. The joinery in the base is a combination of version of a double mitered locking joint for the top supports and sliding dovetails for the legs. The corners of the pedastal were then taken off to give a smooth flow and nice curve between the legs/supports.

That's a beautiful classic unit of furniture! Hope it stays in use and out of storage for a long time!
