This project is the Science of Astronomy melding with the Art of Woodworking.  My two favorite hobbies.  The various woods used in this project are Purple Heart, Red Oak, a little Walnut, and some Baltic Burch plywood.  The telescope is a Newtonian Reflector on a Dobsonian Alt/Azimuth mount.  The tube is 10 inches in diameter and 48″ in length, and has an 8″ parabolic mirror that I ground and polished myself.  The image enters the front, reflects off of the rear mirror, goes back up the tube, reflects off of the 45 degree secondary mirror and is magnified by the eyepiece.
