Curly Maple Round Dinette Table
The curly maple top of this dinette table rests on crossed cherry battens which have notched cleats to register the top on the end of hard maple legs. This design enables us to lift the top off the base when moving the table. The reverse taper legs are inspired by a piece by Kevin Kopil published in the 1980’s and by Thomas Moser’s Edo collection. The flare at the top of the legs adds visual weight to support the cherry battens. Greatest challenge: convincing my wife not to purchase a dinette table for several years as I found time to design and build the table. The finish on the table top is a single coat of amber shellac to enhance the figure which was sanded through prior to brushed gloss polyurethane. The top was sanded to 2000 grit and polished and buffed with car finish swirl remover to produce a glasslike protective finish.
