Live Edge Walnut/Oak Welcome Table
This piece was designed as a welcome table for our church. The asymmetrical design was heavily influenced by the shape of the live edge walnut slab that forms the top.The rift sawn red oak base features leg pillars that subtly change shape as they go from the floor to the top; the outer surface of each leg is flat/straight at the base and transitions to a gentle curve where the leg meets the top. This gives the legs an upward sweeping taper when viewed from the front that draws the eye up to the table top.The wide front apron also curves slightly down its length to match the shape of the leading edge of the table top. The 2″ thick top is a unique slab taken from near the center of the tree.It has beautiful marble grain at the center and areas of included bark along its length. The natural cracks and checks near the ends have been secured with oak butterfly splines for added interest and to visually tie design together. The exterior bark was sanded relatively smooth but left in its natural form.On the rear of the table there are two small hand dovetailed drawers located to one side.
