Wave Spoon
In The Shaker Legacy Christian Becksvoort describes the Shakers’ “insistence upon utility as the first tenet of good design.” He quotes a Shaker aphorism, “Beauty rests on utility.”
I present a humble wooden spoon. A utensil imperative in the kitchen it is as deserving of design consideration as a modern consumer product, yet overlooked as commonplace. My spoon handle design is fit for purpose – to hold. Shaped to nestle in the form of the hand it flows harmoniously into the shallow bowl, completing the sum. Simple, comfortable, functional, its “Beauty rests on utility.”
