ball and claw leg

Chippendale style ball and claw leg out of a cottonwood limb that broke off under an early snow. I wanted to teach myself to carve cabriole legs. Along the way the project evolved to trying inlay (turquoise) and fish carving and painting. It’s called “anyone can catch a ball”. Wood carved easily but while fine sanding the ball, it became stained and I could’t sand it out (inlay would have torn up my tools so I was stuck with abrasives). Trout painted like brook trout. I later found out that there’s a whole community of fish carvers.Great fun.
