Cavalier Cedar Chest

I acquired this Cavalier Cedar Chest and am in the process of refinishing it for my niece. The chest does not look like this anymore, and what I am having issues with is how to properly reattach the wood dowel legs and side trim pieces ( not sure what they are called) There are two pieces for each leg. I have spent what seems like forever online researching Cavalier chests and cannot seem to find anything that even resembles my cedar chest. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
