Ipe Porch Swing
My wife loves rocking on the porch of our new home, so I promised her my first project in 2014 would be a porch swing. I decided the New Yankee Workshop’s design was my favorite and I chose Ipe for its durability and resistance to the elements. All the joinery is mortise and tenon using epoxy glue, and some joints are pinned when needed. The seat slats are screwed and plugged. All of the u-bolts are stainless steel and plugged to hide the fasteners. I built this one year ago, and Im very pleased with the durability of the wood. These photos were taken about 9 months from the finish project, and I really like how its holding its color. I treat it with thompson deck sealer a few times a year which seems to keep the mildew away better than teak oil.
This was a fun project, and my wife and I hope to spend many NC evenings swinging on it!
