Tusks
This box is called “Tusks” Intended for gallery sale, it was purchased by the gallery owner, who had taken an immediate fancy to it.
This box is constructed of birch and bloodwood. The bandsawn and hand-shaped bloodwood legs and lift handle are attached with screws from inside the box. The lid is attached with Brusso stopped hinges.
The box is lined with purple suede cloth. Lacquer finish.
The case itself is 5″ H, 10″ W, 5 1/2″ D. The legs are about 8″.
Project Note: I aligned and mounted the legs and lid lift before finishing. Then I took them off, finished all the parts with spray lacquer, rubbed them out, and reassembled the parts. This avoided any lacquer build-up in the joint lines between the legs, the lid lift and the box itself. This extra effort made for a much cleaner final result.
