Ancient kauri shaker boxes
As a gift for a close friend who lives 5 months a year in New Zealand, I made this series of nesting Shaker boxes. The boxes were made from ancient New Zealand kauri wood as a compliment to this ancient American storage craft. The kauri, dug from 50,000 year old saltwater marshes in the North part of NZ, is a spectacular wood which pocesses a magic irridesance that resembles curly maple on steroids. Finding kauri sides that would bend without fracturing was a challenge but my persistance along with support from the Ancient Wood Company ultimately resulted in success.
