Mahogany Shaker Lap Desk
This is my version of Christian Becksvoort’s Shaker Lap Desk (FWW #248). I didn’t have any good white pine on hand but I did have a piece of mahogany that I resawed and made this from. Fearing that the bottom might move too much to glue directly, I used brass screws and washers with elongated holes and then cov ered the bottom with leather. I used Brusso hinges and added a brass chain to hold the top open. I added some heart cut-outs (gift for my wife) in the removable divider. Finish is Tried & True linseed oil (same as recommended in the article.)

What a great lap desk -- and gift!
It looks great in mahogany and the execution is perfect.
Well done.
