I like the box. I've built a bunch of these and there is a lot you can do with this design.
For example, you can take this basic box and carve contours all over it with an angle grinder and it will have the same structure but an entirely different more "organic" feel.
You can also use walnut, for example, for the whole box or just the top or the hinges. Nice contrasts there. This type of box also looks great in cherry, ash, or white oak -- especially if you get a nice grain on the top.
Great design. Simple but versatile. Have fun with it.
