Walnut and White Oak Sideboard
Woodworker: Chad Hill
The walnut for this sideboard (15 in. deep by 58 1/2 in. wide by 36 in. high) came from Hill’s neighbor, whose woodworker father had passed away. “My neighbor wanted this material to go to good use, as his dad had been storing it until he could come up with that perfect project for it.” So Hill designed the sideboard, incorporating a live edge in the backsplash and the front edge of the top. “I’m not really a huge fan of a live edge, but in this case I felt it complemented the piece well.”

Chad, I really like your design here. I also am very interested in how you finished it. The walnut seems to have a slight reddish hue to it, perhaps more so in my hardcopy magazine than here on the web. Could you share with me what you finished in? Also, the magazine says there is white oak involved, but I don't see it. Did you use WO for drawers maybe? Beautiful piece!
Thanks BillRue for the kind words! Yes, the drawers are white oak. As for the color, this wood in particular has deep tones and a pure color to it, nothing was stained or tinted. The finish is a conversion varnish by M.L.Campbell called Krystal. It is a spray on clear finish. Below is a link to the piece on my website where you can see more pictures if you'd like;
