A flat pack Tetris Bookshelf
To assemble a tetris flat pack is not only an awesome looking piece of home furishing but it’s suitable to be a multipurpose storage unit!
This is not an unit you can buy from Ikea, so a fantastic Ikea assembly service won’t really be suitable. It’s a 100% do it yourself! This means you can edit the size, look and feel of the bookshelf. You could do a final assembly or leave it as a read to assemble unit – ready to be disassembled. I personally did not mount it tight. Some day I may need to dismantle and relocate it, you never know.
The same way classic tetris works – you could always change and reshape the overal assembly by adding or removing blocks as you were doint a fantastic & professional ikea assembly service.
So who’s in for a flat pack bookshelf?
You will need some wooden planks, dust mask, eye protection, ear plugs, sand paper, sanding paper and your regular set of tools: a regular or electric saw, a jig, a few sharp knifes, a few squares, a ruler, a few corner joints and etc. It’s up to you how you will assemble it. Just make sure it’s safe!
How does it work.
Every piece of this flat pack unit, no matter the shape, is made out of four squares. Have in mind that using wood with proper thickness is of crucial importance.
Finewoodworking allows only 5 photo uploads, but if you need more just drop me a message. I have more pictureses, showing details of the assembly itself.
First: Cut the wood.
In case you do not have an el. saw, go with the jig. Have in mind that no matter how easy it migh look like, it is quite time consuming. Make sure you have a square just so everything aligns as it should.
If you mess it up, it will surely affect the montage at a later stage.
Take my advice: Label all your flat pack parts!
After you’re done with the ribbit joints – simply assemble them.
Once again – cutting joints will take you quite a while and MDF dust canbe a killer! Use a mask and safety goggles, no matter what.
While you montage the project, do constant monitoring if all pats fit your square pattern. Along the assembly you will surely stumble here and there. Don’t worry to use glue, but don’t leave any unwiped. To sand it off will cost you nerves you could avoid.
It is of crucial importance to monitor each angle and corner. Backboards must fit perfectly. It’s a flat pack after all.
Once you have built the frame and backboards – sand of any defects joints and angles might have. You would not want to have any visual imperfections.
After all parts of you flat pack are assembled add some preasure to secure to assembly overal durability. Give it some time to tighten up. Add a few layers of primer, sand each coat and you’re ready for painting.
I wanted the flat pack to remind the classic tetris, so I went for sharp and bright colours. The more you apply the better colour your bookshelf will have.
All done?
Stack, assemble and you’re all good to go with your new bookcase storage unit!
