Windsor Stool – modern interpretation
This 3 leg stool in a clean Windsor style would be a perfect addition to your home bar, dining table, music room, or woman/man cave, and is made to last for generations. As with all my work, material selection, and precision joinery technique are absolutely critical. I use no metal fasteners in my work. The highly relieved, hand tool carved seat is stunning to look at and a joy to sit on with no pressure points. A unique design element of this stool is the angle of the seat. The back legs are slightly longer than the front legs, which pitches the seat forward slightly and provides better alignment of the spine compared to carved seats that have no pitch.
I assemble all my chairs and stools using high quality instrument maker grade hide glue. Hide glue is as strong as any modern glue and is non-toxic. Hide glue also has the benefit of being reversible if a repair were needed to be made down the road.
The standard finish for my chairs and stools is an oil/varnish blend. This is a very easy finish to maintain, is durable, and non-toxic once fully cured.
