Falling Rings Light Pendant steam bent branch riser and tripod bench style base
The falling rings light pendant is the result of my desire to use every part of the tree I possibly can and still produce a hand made, functional, and artistic product. The translucent rings of wood that are the building blocks of the pendant are thick hand plane shavings from pieces of firewood which I shave and mold by hand. There are +/- 280 rings in the pendant shown. The pendant gives off a unique shadow pattern and warm light that is not achievable in any other lighting material.
The pendant shown in the photos is mounted to a custom 3-leg bench style floor lamp made from a hand selected branch of white oak and then steam bent to the shape you see in the photos.
I designed the lamp base to allow you to place your favorite book or beverage at a comfortable height while sitting in chair. The base is supported by 3 tapered legs securely mortised into the base which allows the electrical wiring to be routed from the bottom in any direction.
The riser is mortised all the way through the base and secured with a removable pin allowing the riser to be separated from the base.
The wiring is custom, 18 gauge twisted-pair light brown cloth covered wire.
This is one of ten unique light pendant and base designs that I recently began making from material that most would consider useless, or useful as firewood.
