Ambrosia Maple and Claro Walnut Jewelry Box
This is a jewelry box I made for my niece upon her graduation from High School. The main body is ambrosia maple with black walnut legs. The top is edge joined claro walnut, the removable tray is also claro walnut. The lid is attached by a 1/2″ dia. wood hinge using the techniques from Rob Cosman’s wood hinge. The tray sits on 1/8″ and 1/4″ maple dividers, and the bottom of the box is lined with black velvet. The brass lid stay I used on this box is a brusso JB 250. The entire box is finished with several coats of Danish Oil. The box body measures 13″x10.5″x4″, not including the 3/4″ top; the legs lift the box up by 3/4″ for a total height of 5.5″, including top.

The removable tray has routed out compartments to hold various types of jewelry, and the velvet lined bottom has larger and deeper divisions made by 1/8" and 1/4" maple stock.

I routed the area where the lid stay was to be mounted and glued in some black walnut first for some contrasting detail. You can see the wood hinge in this photo also.
