Sculpted Rocker
Maloof (using Brock plans) rocker.
Really fun project. Shaping is fun but tedious, final scraping & sanding takes considerable time, even though I did as much as possible before glue-ups. I pre-finished from the seat up before attaching rockers. Scraping all surfaces saves tremendously on the sanding time. I’m not thrilled about the dowel connections or the single screw for the back of the arms. I pinned the dowels in the rockers for a little extra insurance. I’m used to dovetails & mortise/tenons I guess. The maloof joints are extremely strong though. I wedged the maple screw plugs with ebony for a little extra pop.

Don't worry about using screws -- Sam used them all the time to strengthen key joints in his chairs.
A beautiful rocking chair. Very nice work!
