Writing desk
My wife, recently retired, wanted a desk for her woman-cave. (My woodshop is my man-cave.) So here it is. Maple, finished in sealer followed by Waterlox and a final coat of wax polish. Except for the left drawer (which was a pain to fit), it came out pretty well. I am of course proud of the perfect tapers on the legs! The shelf and the various dividers entailed some 30 tongues and stopped grooves. The gallery is held down with two inset pairs of rare-earth magnets, so it just lifts off.
[Design comment: the gallery top would have been better buried in the tops of the sides to make a smooth transition…oh well!]

Great work on this desk.
I am sure your wife loves it.
Thanks for the photos!
Looks really good. How long did it take you to put it together?
Hi Daniel--
I work very slowly (and have to fix mistakes as well), and the fall weather was good for tooling around in the Healey for distraction! So hours are probably more informative. About 20 hours for the desk, and another 20 hours for the gallery. Not including the several coats of finish of course (about 5 days). For myself, very much part-time, about 2 months. If nearer full-time, 3 weeks would probably do it.
