Cherry & Curly Maple Crib
I made this crib for my first child, Mason who is due in a couple of months. The crib is made of solid Cherry and Curly Maple. All of the joinery is pegged mortise and tenon with cross dowel bolts connecting the head and foot board to the side rails. The overall design is shaker style with a touch of modern.
Key Design Elements:The legs and bottom rail of the foot board are curved to soften the square look. The head and foot board feature a top cap with a thumbnail profile. The head board incorporates a frame and panel above the slats including three solid cherry panels resawn from a single 12/4 board. Lastly, the mattress rests on a frame and slat assembly with pegged bridle joints. The mattress support rests on an adjustable cleat system to raise and lower the mattress as our baby grows. The piece is finished with salad bowl finish by General Finishes.

A beautiful crib. It will be treasured for generations.
Great work, Dad.
I was doing a lot of research on building a crib for my daughter and came across your beautiful crib. I think it is a wonderful design and did my best to replicate. I made some minor changes and used maple as the primary wood to match the rest of my daughters bedroom set. My center highlight slats were Australian blackwood. Thanks for your inspiration. I attached some images of my crib for you to check out.
