Cupboard with drawers, cherry and wedge
I made this some 18 years ago, so it shows some traces of use by now. The cupboard is made in cherry, the door grips and drawer pulls and the top are wenge. Everything is assembled with dovetail joints. The wenge drawer runners are glued into the drawer sides, they extend into the drawer pulls and slide in grooves routed into the sides (adapted from an idea I saw in James Krenov’s book “The fine art of cabinetmaking”). I chose not to use secret dovetails for the drawers as I found this visually more interesting. The wenge top is joined to the cabinet sides with dovetails and its front side is slightly bowed (not really clear from the pictures). The drawer bottoms and the shelves inside are maple (not shown either). Finishing is with wax only. This was one of my first larger works and my first attempt at dovetails, all in all a very rewarding experience.
