9′ Pool Table, Walnut & Birdseye Maple
I started building this pool table in July, 2009. I broke the first rack of balls on the table on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2009. The plans came from Fine Woodworking Magazine #75, March/April, 1989.
It is now more than 6 years after completion and the table still plays perfectly (unlike its owner).
I installed hidden jack screws into each leg that can be raised & lowered by using a ratchet wrench for rough leveling. These jack screws sit on 5″ diameter, 3/4″ thick steel pads. Makes it really easy for initial installation and long term stability which is critical for permanent leveling.
I have always loved shooting pool but hardly picked up a cue in more than 40 years. I was not playing pool when I remember getting the FW issue in 1989. I thought to myself at the time, “Who would be silly enough to try to build their own pool table?” Well, some 20 years after reading that article I was silly enough to try it. I’m glad I took on the project. It’s certainly one of the most satisfying projects I’ve ever completed and it still provides many hours of enjoyment for family and friends.
