This is my latest project that I started last August and is based on a design by Kevin Rodel. This will match nicely with my file cabinet that I made a while back. A special thanks to my friend Dan M. for his help with the Sketchup plans and all his encouragement along the way.

The construction is solid cherry with walnut accents. Mortise and tenon joinery throughout fashioned with a combination of machine cut and hand tools. The arched cross pieces feature wedged through tenons with walnut wedges. The tops of each leg have walnut inlays. These were cut from some walnut that I friend gave to me that had been air drying for 15 years. The inlays are 1/8″ thick and the recess was routed into the legs. One leg features a hole for a hidden power cord.

The top is 1″ thick, and was glued up from several boards. The breadboard ends on the top, the front apron, and drawer fronts feature faceted walnut inlays. On the breadboard ends, these cover the screws that hold the ends on. There are only three small pencil drawers, since I am trying to cut down on paper and supplies at my desk. The drawers are made from soft maple with box joint corners and ride on self closing ball bearing guides

Finish is Arm-R-Seal semi-gloss with 4 coats on the base, and about 8 coats on the top. The finish was applied with a foam brush and rubbed out with Behlen’s Deluxing Compound.
