Simple but functional workbench
After just completing the build of my new workshop I decided it should have a new workbench. I have never had an dedicated workbench before just using what ever was available to me eg.an outdoor table or a dining table even the new workshop is a bit off a comprimise, living in the city in Australia you dont get a lot of backyard so I wanted a workshop and my better half wanted an entertainment area. The whole space I have is 10meters by 5 meters so i built a deck 10m by 5m then inclosed 4m by 5m and built shelves and storage cabinets and place the machinery like the bandsaw and drill press inside and the tablesaw and lathe are on casters and get rolled out onto the entertainer area when I need to do any thing.Anyway getting back the bench it is not anything elaberate its simple and functional it has a couple of draw for storing drill bits and such and a shelf on the bottom for storage of some larger tools boxes of screws the draw fronts are made from pine the lumber I am not sure what it is I got it free from work it comes in on the containers from overseas and the company throw it out it is 4x4x8 feet long I bring home and rip it down for what I need. The top is 1 inch thick laminated with a hard wood edge band it is purposly built for what works for me so there are no dog holes and I still have to get a vice the whole bench is finish with Watco natural danish oil. I hope you will find this build interesting as I am quiet proud of it being fairly new to woodworking.
