Natural Edge Walnut Bench
Natural edge walnut bench, 1 1/4″ thick, approx. 89″ long x 15″ wide x 16″ high. Legs are solid walnut, turned on my Delta 16″ swing lathe. Legs are fixed at a compound angle via through tenons. Hard maple wedges are glued into the tenons.
The ends of the walnut slab were contoured using a sabre saw, angle grinder, and rasps.
Because of the bench’s length, it would sag slightly when an adult sat in the middle. To eliminate the sag, I glued and screwed laminated walnut stiffeners underneath which solved the problem. The stiffeners can be seen in the last photo but cannot be seen when the bench is right side up.
Three coats of exterior polyurethane were applied as the finish.
