Boot bench
Cherry bench
Our entry hall needed a place to sit and exchange boots for shoes. The design pairs the rustic live edge 6/4 slab with A&C inspired legs to compliment our Prairie Style home.
Finish: WaterLox traditional.

Hand planing the slab revealed a beautiful grain structure. Removing the bark and smoothing the live edge was more difficult than anticipated. Scrapers, chisels, sandpaper finally yielded a suitable surface.
The legs splay 5 degrees with an 11 degree toe-in; this results in a challenging compound tenon angle. I used a collection of 5 and 11 degree wedges to form the shoulders and cheeks on a table saw and band saw.
Angled cauls and wedge tenons.
Locally harvested cherry slabs and boards. Kiln dried to a hardwood schedule.
