African Mahogany Swivel Desk
Woodworker:
Peter Marcucci
Woodbridge, Ont., Canada
An enthusiastic student of the work of Charles Rohlfs (1853–1936), Marcucci has re-created several pieces by the lesser-known Arts and Crafts maker. “The artistic and somewhat eccentric nature of Rohlfs’s work appeals to me.” This swivel desk came about after Marcucci had the chance to photograph an measure an original (ca. 1898). Before attempting construction, he built a mockup out of plywood and reproduced many of the carvings in basswood.
