Copper and wood box inspired by Michael Cullen
We made the box from a 4″ X 4″ X 8″ block of spalted sugar maple. It’s a straightforward variation of Cullen’s two wall box. We used a 3 degree cant for the sidewalls, inside and out. The copper is given relief using a technique called repousse, then epoxied to the lid with proud edges, and sanded flush on a reciprocating spindle sander. The wood is finished outside by dimpling randomly with a gouge, then with 4 coats of shellac, followed with wax. The interior is finished with milk paint.

Well, my apologies for the third sentence, which should read: "We used 3 degree cant for the sidewalls, inside and out. " Darn that iPad autocorrect!
Looks Great! Usually I see copper with darker woods, but this turned out fantastic.
This is a beautiful box, but adding the copper to the top was an inspiration.
Well done!
