Men’s Small Wardrobe
I bought a craftsman style wardrobe in South Carolina several years ago. I liked the layout of the wardrobe but, despite plywood construction, the piece was not sturdy. I decided to try an innovative design for the wardrobe in my own style as a gift for my son. I wanted to use solid walnut sides and panels. To prevent warping I cut a series of through mortises in the sides with locking tenons on the horizontal panels which were pinned with cherry wedges. This design allowed the side panels to be pulled together tightly against the straight edge of the horizontal panels. The horizontal panels are prevented from warping by the alignment of the mortises. I was hoping the details of the tenons would be appealing. The handles are laminated strips of walnut and cherry with a cherry accent strip between the doors. Overall I am pleased with the way the piece turned out.
