Maple Burl Platters
PHIL GAUTREAU
Brooklyn, N.Y.
The wood for these maple burl platters came from
Columbia County, N.Y., about two hours north of
Gautreau’s studio. “The design inspiration was
more of an accident than a plan. I’d intended
to turn two saucer-shaped hollow forms but the
wood blank thickness was better suited to the
open platter form.”
