Gallery: Japanese Garden Bench
This is a slightly different take on Jensen’s bench from May of 2008. I did not like the off centered back so I tapered the crest rail to follow the center line of the back components. It is made from Spanish Cedar and finished with the two step CES and Epifanes clear varnish.
The project was fun to build with some curvy lines at are pleasing to the eye. The curves and slants add time to produce this piece. By tapering the back it adds a little more back angle and increases the sitting comfort. If you off-set the back as Jensen did I would recommend a few degrees more back angle. There as another post on this piece describing it as uncomfortable. This is a solution by adding angle and centering the back for a nice look from behind.
