The only specification from the owner of this piece was the 24″ x 48″ size.  Evan Shively of Arborica in Marshall, CA supplied the 28″ wide big leaf maple plank.  My intention was to use this spectacular piece of wood with as little interference from me as possible.  The center drawer includes a drawing showing the range and scientific name of the big leaf maple tree.  The miter joints are reinforced with “domino” tenons and were finished by rolling the edges with a burnisher (credit to David Charlesworth).

The finish is oil-modified poly resin.
