Dining Chair
I have been making this chair in varied forms for twenty five years as my standard dining chair. It has evolved to become lighter by tapering the legs and drilling large diameter holes in the structural underframe. The underframe is made of the same oak as the rest of the chair but ebonised with steel wool dissolved in vinegar to give the seat an impression of floating between the legs and to give the structural components a more industrial look. The new upholstered version has a domed seat to match the curves on top of the legs but it uses three different densities of foam for a comfortable sitting experience. The back is sculpted from a laminated block and angled up 10 degrees to make it smile. The centre is 225mm above the seat for good lumbar support.
