New/Old bedside table
Many years ago, I inherited two walnut end tables from my g-grandparents. Made in the late 1800’s, they were poorly crafted and severely abused. But the wood was nice! One tabletop was secured by screws down into the legs and a pair of drawers had 4, 3, 2, and 4 dovetails! Not even close to being restorable. I included some photos of the components after I disassembled the tables. My plan was to re-purpose the parts to make one good table. I must say that planing 19th century walnut is a joy to see revealed! I was able to reshape and veneer the top faces four legs and barely had enough wood leftover for the structure. Secondary wood used in the drawer is cherry and the lower shelf was made with breadboard ends. All joints mortise and tenon, no screws. Signed-dated-done! The result was one nice new/old table!
