Pair of Small Router Planes
This is a pair of small router planes. This left plane is made from bronze and rosewood and the right from steel, brass and ebony. A round tenon was turned on the end of the bodies and inserted into the partial circle cut into the base. The bronze plane was assembled using silver solder and the brass body to the steel base using screws. The studs for the handles were drilled and threaded for the handle attachment screws. A round tenon was turned on the bottom of the studs and inserted into chamfered holes in the base. The ends of the tenons were peened to permanently attach them to the base which was then sanded flat. The handles were turned and drilled for the brass screws and washers. The blade adjustment knobs were turned, threaded, and knurled and have decorative wood center inserts. The blades were purchased from Lee Valley. Overall dimensions are 2 inches wide by 3-1/2″ long and 1-3/8″ tall, not including the blade.

Nicely done!
I love seeing this type craftsmanship. Sort of an original, "low frills" take on a cool tool. I have little in the way of metalworking skill (though I've done some nice work in wood) but I can almost imagine that I could pull off something like this- if only in my imagination. Thanks for sharing these and the other great tools you have made!
