Maloof-style Rocker in Quilted, Big-Leaf, Western Maple, and Ebony Accents
A visit to Sam Maloof’s shop in 1990 was immensely inspirational for me. I was determined to make one of his iconic rockers and did eventually manage to struggle through one. In so doing, and with his written and personal help, I found that I was gradually learning various hand and power-tool techniques.
Over the years, I kept returning to this rocker design, gradually tweaking my patterns and techniques to improve strength, durability, aesthetics and comfort, as well as exploring the working properties of various wood species.
