Prairie Settle
I just finished a Prairie Settle based on an article by Kevin Rodel in FW Issue #199–July/Aug 2008. I followed the article and plans pretty closely, but extended the length by 24 inches. I did use some different techniques for the joinery.
I used pipe couplings to extend my pipe clamps to the full 8 feet, but I did run out of pipe clamps. I fashioned a yolk out of scrap wood to connect my bar clamps to extend the full length.
Another article I read over and over was Michael Pekovich’s “Fast Shellac Finish”. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known to cut the shellac 1:1. It went on much easier, with no streaking.
I also referred more than once to “How to Fix Flaws and Mistakes” by Mark Schofield FW Issue #228 – Sept/Oct 2012.
Overall, many lessons learned. The next one will be easier. Shall I make a chair to match or a coffee table?
