Black Walnut Dresser
Geoffrey McKonly
Northampton, Mass.
When a client wanted a dresser made of black walnut, McKonly started looking for boards that inspired him. One day he came across a stack of wide walnut boards reclaimed from a church in Williamstown, Mass. They were the backs of pews estimated to be from 1870. “The color of the boards was a rich chocolate brown, with a lot of red and purple tones. No sapwood at all. I realized this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
