North Bennet Street Tool Box with Base Cabinet
The well known North Bennet tool box is the most exciting project in the program. It is your right of passage at the school and is the second of five required projects you start out with. This project comes shortly after learning, practicing, and honing your woodworking skills to complete a well handcrafted piece of art. I choose to build the 24″ x 14″ x 14″ tool box out of cherry and maple but wanted to give it my own personal touch by adding pyrography to the curly maple panel but I did not want to stop their. I knew having a base cabinet to go with the tool box would make it a complete woodworking tool box. Again, I added the pyrography on the curly maple panels with a Japanese scene that I am really happy with. The panel door for the tool box is housed inside the tool box just above the drawers. This feature was also carried down into the base cabinet but I created my own version of pocket doors without metal hardware. The cabinet sits on ogee bracket feet and is finished with Danish oil, Arm-r-seal, and clear wax. I am proud to say that this piece took first prize in the Topsfield Fair last fall.
