A Plane that ain’t Plain
A capstone class at Colorado State University’s Industrial Arts program produced over thirty of these planes.
Drawing from Trent Bosch’s* artistic background created a unique product of exceptional form. The high function came from the enthusiasm of students that wanted to produce a high-quality hand plane of this caliber and it shows in the many fine details.
Cherry and bloodwood are the two woods used in this version. A miniature rack & pinion system allows precise blade location while a cantilevered block holds everything rock solid. A phone conversation with Ron Hock yielded a heavy custom blade that matched the rack & pinion perfectly.
*Trent is currently soaring as a professional woodturner, instructor and tool inventor.
