A 17th C. Bench
I found a picture of this bench in Salomonsky’s “Masterpieces of Furniture. The original 17th C. bench was made in England in oak. It is a Jacobean period design decorated with a Renaissance ornamental floral design carved in the apron.
I built the bench in Modesto Ash, a local tree found here in Northern California. I applied some tannic acid, then potassium hydroxide to dye the ash. Then applied raw linseed oil. The finish is seedlac shellac.
