Sheraton Work Table
This is a Sheraton Work Table copied from a picture in two books – “American Furniture from the Kaufman Collection” and “The Furniture Masterworks of John and Thomas Seymour”. I designed the details in SketchUp by first importing the picture and modeling based on the given overall dimensions.
The upper carcase is completely covered in various veneers and bandings. The turned and tapered legs have banding inlay in six vertical grooves spaced around the legs.
I used hot hide glue for all the construction and inlay veneer work. I used a veneer hammer to place the veneer on the mahogany or secondary wood.
I chemically dyed the mahogany, then covered in raw linseed oil. Then began coats of seedlac and finally French Polish. It is rubbed out with pumice and rottenstone.
The original piece would have included a fabric bag hanging below the carcase. The pictures in the books showed the piece without this fabric bag. I wanted the table without this feature.
