Dining Table
This table replaced an 18th Century-design table of a smaller diameter. The owners particularly liked the satinwood inlay around the border of that table and wanted a larger table built with the same general feel but with a new, innovative design. The weave pattern on the top was accomplished by scorching the edge of the veneer in the traditional sand-shading method. The middle of the table has veneer pieces diminishing in size as they approach the center, which is walnut burl, to give the illusion of entering into another dimension, or outside the existing surface. The base for this table, which I call the “Lotus” base, is one I have used on several occasions. The hand-rubbed finish is conventional lacquer.
