Maple Oud
The Oud is the ancient for runner of the lute and guitar. In this case it is fitted with 11 strings and has no frets. Overall length is about 24″.
I followed plans in Richard Hankey’s book which is excellent.
The body is hollow and made of 13 ribs in this case. The ribs are heat formed, following a template that established the body size. They are then planed and glued together. Hide glue is used throughout.
The sound board is fir, ribs provide stiffness and enhance the sound quality.
