Side board
This side board was a transition piece for me, from boxy furniture to incorporating slender and curvy aspects into my furniture. It also allowed me to experiment with the use of negative space in my work. I was able to use an interesting piece of walnut for the front, when this log was being milled a five inch thickĀ piece from the centre of the tree could not be cut, because the Sawyer found a section that had old nails embedded in the tree from when it was younger. As the tree grew around the nails it created interesting figure and bark inclusions. Some of which I had to fill with epoxy. This piece also allowed me to use shellac as a finish for the first time. All in all in was a difficult piece of furniture to make but am very pleased with how it turned out.
